Survival Food for Close to 25¢

(SurvivalDaily.com) – Food is essential in survival, but even so, stocking up can be expensive. Of course, you could spend money and get MREs and other emergency food supplies. Why not just buy food that’s easy to store, has a long shelf life and is super cheap? Where would you find such a product? The answer is easy if you think about it.

You’ve probably guessed by now that we’re talking about instant noodles, namely ramen. It’s likely the best instant food you can stock up on thanks to its versatility and super low-cost. Depending on where you live, you can pick up a 48-pack of Nissin Top Ramen for under $10.

Instant noodles are also super easy to store, and they stack nicely, making them perfect for closet stuffing. The shelf life of instant noodles largely depends on how you store them, the type of noodle they are and the conditions of the space they’re in.

They do best in a cool, dry space away from direct sunlight. Also, don’t store your instant noodles with foods that have strong odors; just don’t do it.

Typically, a pack of Top Ramen will last anywhere between 2 and 12 months, although thanks to their preservatives, these noodles can probably last well past their “best by” date. While they won’t provide all of the calories or nutrition a body requires, they do back a healthy dose of carbohydrates and sodium the body needs to function. It’s also pretty easy to add a can of chicken meat to ramen as it cooks to boost the nutritional value.

Not everyone likes noodles, and maybe you’re one of those people, so check out these other foods that are great to stock up on for emergencies. Though, to be fair, if it meant your survival, you’d probably eat anything you could.
